This week in maths Coneys have been exploring whole, halves and quarters as part of our fractions learning. The children have enjoying cutting playdough into and also dividing counters into bowls working hands on with their maths. Why not enjoy a cake with your children this weekend and let them tell you all about cutting it in half and into quarters?

Last week we were joined by Jane Silver-Corren for a Jewish Education Workshop linking to our learning on what it means to be belong to a religion. All classes enjoyed finding out more about Jewish traditions and customs. We learnt songs, tried on traditional costumes, tasted Challah bread and had the opportunity to look at and handle many Jewish artefacts.

In English, Lamberts have started to explore stories from other cultures. That have been focusing on the feelings of the characters and looking at words that help us understand each character, how they live and how this would make them feel.
The class discussed books that they have read, how stories are read and the purpose of them. They enjoyed unjumbling sentences to focus on the parts of a story,

What an exciting start to the summer term on Wednesday with the children of the Trust communicating with the International Space Station! All of the children in Marshwood CE Primary School have enjoyed this moment, talking directly with an astronauts onboard the ISS as it passed over us in a small 15 minute window. Two of the children in Marshwood were selected to ask their question to those onboard directly and all schools joined virtually to experience this fantastic opportunity. They both said how exciting it was, but also how crazy it was that they were talking to space.

Space Day today has been phenomenal! Year 5 and 6 have been at Axminster Primary all day and the rest of the school joined online for the live link-up to the ISS. We hope that some of you had a chance to hear Matthew Dominick answer our questions on board the ISS. When we first heard his voice coming over the airways from space, it was a very special moment.
BBC and ITV were reporting from site at Axminster Primary, as well as live show link ups with Radio Devon. Please log onto the local evening news tonight to watch our news!

One of our governors, Sarah Cuff, recently travelled to Kenya with the “The Murugi Community Trust”. We were able to send her out with 8 old laptops from Acorn Multi Academy Trust which we could no longer use but have now been provided to teachers and students at various schools in Kenya. Mrs Cuff came in and gave a presentation to Pilsdon Pen class recently and they were fascinated to find out about what life and schools are like in this part of the world.
Here's Mrs Cuff presenting two laptops from Acorn MAT to the Headteacher and senior teacher at Kiriani School.

Yo Kiddos, I’m Sunny! I had a GRAPE fundRAISIN’ idea for the month of April! We hope that you enjoyed the raisins and just wanted to remind you to fill the box up with coins; then bring it back to school after Easter? Pennies or pounds - Everything helps when we’re raisin’ money for our school!
The Class that raises the most money will earn an extra break time!!!
We thank you for your support and hope that you are having a wonderful Easter.

BBC Bitesize - part of the Parents' Toolkit
If you’re a parent or carer of a primary school-age child, you've probably felt exasperated at times trying to manage their time and your own daily tasks. It can be hard to do that and keep your child occupied when it's a school holiday - and they probably aren't getting anywhere near as much exercise as they would be getting in the playground.
But help is at hand - we’ve got some fun films here to help keep them active indoors over the holiday and there's the added bonus of some stealth learning as they move along.
Physical activity has been shown to boost concentration and learning, and being active for 60 minutes a day is the minimum recommendation for children in the UK. With that in mind, these films have been designed to help you get your child moving in a small space – so you can do this at home without having to brave bad weather.

As infants, we all rely completely on adults to help us resolve situations that are causing us to become upset or stressed. This is known as co-regulation. The next phase, once autonomy has begun to develop, is called self-regulation: this is when children start to become capable of exercising more control over their impulses and behaviour, and managing their own emotions.
This vital developmental milestone, however, isn’t reached spontaneously. Learning to self-regulate requires sensitive guidance from trusted adults – simply talking with children about their thoughts and feelings, for instance, can ease the route to self-regulation. This #WakeUpWednesday guide has some expert tips for supporting children to reach this goal.
