Reception have been exploring numbers 1 - 8, counting with both hands, for example looking at how 8 is made with 5 and 3. We then had some help from our puppet who said he was very good at organising numbers, but we had to teach him how to do it correctly! We explored the staircase pattern using our Numberblocks numbers, focusing on how each one should be one more.

Inspired by abstract sculpture from artists such as Anthony Caro, Lamberts drew sketches of playground equipment looking carefully at both negative and positive space. These were used to develop plans for abstract sculptures then we used the church to spread out and move our sculptures from plan to reality. Thank you to everyone who donated cardboard for Lamberts Class to use in their artwork - we had an amazing time creating these! We are so fortunate to have the church to use as an additional space for our learning.

We would like to thank Melissa and Jim for coming into school last week to lead our annual apple orchard blessing during our collective worship. The children enjoyed taking part in a number of activities ahead of the blessing of the trees and we look forward to another apple harvest. #appleorchards🍎 #blessingappletrees

Lamberts Class had a great time recreating Hadrian’s Wall as part of their History topic on the Romans. They used clay to construct sections of the wall, using different methods to create the stones. The wall includes turrets, milecastles and forts as well as a viaduct. They were all so pleased with it once it was all joined together. #hadrianswall #romans

Lamberts have enjoyed their forest school sessions this half term. They have: Learnt how to build and light fires Collect, sort and store fire wood Cooked marshmallow smores, pizza wraps, popcorn, hot chocolate cream and marshmallows Used knives to whittle and carve to create items such as butter knives Used clay and natural materials to sculpt woodland animals on to tree trunks Learnt about our seasons, the changes to the forest through the year and why they happen in relation to the earth and the sun Learnt in depth about why deciduous trees shed their leaves Played team games Built dens Learnt about birds and made our own bird feeders for the forest #forestschoolideas #forestschool

This week we said a sad farewell to Reverend Sarah Godfrey as she retires. Reverend Sarah has been a fantastic support to the school and we would like to thank her for the abundance of support she has showed Marshwood over the years here with us, including weekly collective worships, advent afternoons as well as collaborations with other CofE schools in the local area, to name but a few of the wonderful things that we have been lucky to be part of. We wish her a very happy and restful retirement. @Golden Cap Churches

In Lamberts this term, we are learning about the geography of Europe. To find out about Scandinavia, we split into groups and researched the physical and human features of one Scandinavian country each to then present back to the rest of the class. The previous week we had Mrs Seth Smith who shared with us what it is like to live in the Netherlands.

In Coneys class we are learning about jobs and occupations, discussing the skills that are needed that we are learning now including listening, communication, problem solving, team work etc and how what we are learning in school today links to a job that the children may aspire to do in the future. Last week we were joined by Michaela Hartley who talked about her role as a nurse and how the NHS help keep us well and healthy and look after are care for us. The children enjoyed learning about this role and seeing some items used to keep everyone safe.

Anger at a toy being stolen. Sadness when losing a game. Frustration when struggling in class. All children will experience challenging feelings sooner or later. Emotions are a natural part of life, and while youngsters should be allowed to express themselves, it’s important they also learn how to process these more difficult emotions in a mindful way. Of course, many children may well be encountering these intense feelings for the first time, and it can be intimidating to skirt the line of helping them properly handle their emotions while also validating their experiences. The National College have put together this free guide, offering expert advice on how supporting youngsters to develop emotional literacy. #WakeUpWednesday

As part of English this half term, Pilsdon has been learning about stories from other cultures. They used a short video about Mexico's Day of the Dead celebration to inspire their own stories. The children created some fantastic stories and even had the opportunity to turn these into their own books which they are very proud of.

In Art, Coneys have been looking at 'Numbers in Colour' by Jasper Johns and used this as inspiration to create their own pieces of art. They enjoyed creating these pieces individually and likes how their primary colours mixed on the page when they did touch.
