Silver School Games Award 2019/20

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games SILVER Mark Award for the 2019/20 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Our sporting achievements this year include: WINNING THE TRI GOLF TOURNAMENT, FOR THE LYME REGIS AREA and MAKING IT THROUGH TO THE FINALS AT BRYANSTON. As well as taking part in: Football tournaments, Tag Rugby, Quad Kids, Athletics, Kwik Cricket, Netball and Handball. With a total of 70 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year. A special thanks to: All of the Parents, Governors and Staff who have helped transport children to events, plus given their help and support throughout the year.

Action Plan 2019-2020 - Reviewed

The government is providing additional funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is provided jointly by the Department for Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

Purpose of funding

Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. This year Marshwood will receive £16,000, plus an additional £10 per pupil.

PE Premium Action Plan 2019/20 - Reviewed

For the academic year 2020/21, Marshwood Primary Academy is planning on using the money in the following ways:

  • To provide alternative sports across the whole school through the employment of Sporting Chance
  • Continued CPD for staff – in particular gymnastics and swimming.
  • Continue to subsidise afterschool paid clubs to make them accessible for all children
  • Buying into existing local sports networks (Inc. Dorset School sports)
  • Continued purchase of new equipment, to update and refresh old equipment and ensure there is enough for all
  • To develop health and mental wellbeing of children
  • Continue to provide weekly OAA/Forest School activities for all children at school throughout the year
  • Pay for and subsidise transport, to ensure children can continue to attend sporting events safely, on time and consistently
  • Subsidise OAA residential visits for KS2.
  • Provide CPD opportunities for teaching staff, including NQTs
  • Visit larger sporting venues and experience different sports in relation to the 2020 Olympics – e.g. Exeter Chiefs and Portland Olympic Sailing Academy
  • Help fund the KS2 Mini Marines programme, which has a Sports Leader, OAA and First Aid training element.
  • Have our confident swimmers undertake Personal Survival 1 and 2 water training. These units go way beyond the National Curriculum requirements, with specialist instructors used to teach our children water and land based rescue techniques, alongside vital water survival skills.
