Space Day today has been phenomenal! Year 5 and 6 have been at Axminster Primary all day and the rest of the school joined online for the live link-up to the ISS. We hope that some of you had a chance to hear Matthew Dominick answer our questions on board the ISS. When we first heard his voice coming over the airways from space, it was a very special moment.
BBC and ITV were reporting from site at Axminster Primary, as well as live show link ups with Radio Devon. Please log onto the local evening news tonight to watch our news!

One of our governors, Sarah Cuff, recently travelled to Kenya with the “The Murugi Community Trust”. We were able to send her out with 8 old laptops from Acorn Multi Academy Trust which we could no longer use but have now been provided to teachers and students at various schools in Kenya. Mrs Cuff came in and gave a presentation to Pilsdon Pen class recently and they were fascinated to find out about what life and schools are like in this part of the world.
Here's Mrs Cuff presenting two laptops from Acorn MAT to the Headteacher and senior teacher at Kiriani School.

Yo Kiddos, I’m Sunny! I had a GRAPE fundRAISIN’ idea for the month of April! We hope that you enjoyed the raisins and just wanted to remind you to fill the box up with coins; then bring it back to school after Easter? Pennies or pounds - Everything helps when we’re raisin’ money for our school!
The Class that raises the most money will earn an extra break time!!!
We thank you for your support and hope that you are having a wonderful Easter.

BBC Bitesize - part of the Parents' Toolkit
If you’re a parent or carer of a primary school-age child, you've probably felt exasperated at times trying to manage their time and your own daily tasks. It can be hard to do that and keep your child occupied when it's a school holiday - and they probably aren't getting anywhere near as much exercise as they would be getting in the playground.
But help is at hand - we’ve got some fun films here to help keep them active indoors over the holiday and there's the added bonus of some stealth learning as they move along.
Physical activity has been shown to boost concentration and learning, and being active for 60 minutes a day is the minimum recommendation for children in the UK. With that in mind, these films have been designed to help you get your child moving in a small space – so you can do this at home without having to brave bad weather.

As infants, we all rely completely on adults to help us resolve situations that are causing us to become upset or stressed. This is known as co-regulation. The next phase, once autonomy has begun to develop, is called self-regulation: this is when children start to become capable of exercising more control over their impulses and behaviour, and managing their own emotions.
This vital developmental milestone, however, isn’t reached spontaneously. Learning to self-regulate requires sensitive guidance from trusted adults – simply talking with children about their thoughts and feelings, for instance, can ease the route to self-regulation. This #WakeUpWednesday guide has some expert tips for supporting children to reach this goal.

Rev Sarah Godfrey joined us to teach us about Lent. The children learned about Lent being a period of 40 days during which many Christians remember the events leading up to and including the death of Jesus. The 40-day period is called Lent after an old English word meaning 'lengthen'. In their house teams, the children also created their own butterflies of hope and also made a beautiful paperchain cross which is displayed in the church.

In Maths, Coneys have been exploring the different between volume and capacity. They have looked at how many millimetres containers hold making predictions and then exploring the answers hands on, with lots of water fun being had by all!

A huge thank you to the staff and PFA for arranging an egg-cellent Easter Hop which all the children enjoyed on Friday. Sponsorship money was collected by the children for completing circuits of the Easter Hop Obstacle Course. The children all got to find their own treat at the end of the course enjoying an Easter chocolate bunny kindly gifted by the PFA. The funds raise will go towards phase 2 of the playground development adding more exciting equipment for all of the children to enjoy. A fantastic time was had by all.

In Pilsdon Class we are learning about animal kingdoms and we drew our own beautiful mammals, birds and insects. Aren't they gorgeous? Do you know which species each of them are?

During Science Week last week, Lamberts had a visit from Mr Ransome-Williams and science teacher from The Woodroffe School along with some pupils form year 6 looking at animal skeletons. They looked at skulls and matched them to the animal.
They also added fruit to jelly and will find out this week what changes this makes to the jelly.
